The acting president of NCLT has issued a notification where powers have been given to a Judicial Member in a single bench to decided cases of certain class

On 27 April 2026, in an unprecedented move, the Acting President of NCLT by way an administrative order has authorized Single Judicial
Member Bench to hear and dispose of cases of the following nature:
(a) Early hearing applications
(b) orders for completion of pleadings and ensuring compliance with the directions passed by NCLT
(c) condone delay in filing of applications/replies/rejoinders/ or affidavits as directed by the NCLT
(d) Extension of CIRP/Liquidation Period applications, where such applications are unopposed or do not involve complex questions
(e) extension of interim reliefs previously granted by the division bench
(f) application seeking confirmation/substitution/replacement of IRP/Resolution Professional/Liquidator
(g) Application seeking substitution of parties/LRs etc.
(h) Taking on record the progress reports filed by IRP/Resolution Professional/Liquidator
(i) Application regarding constitution/reconstitution of CoC
(j) Procedural directions to the Registry
Notably these applications should be unopposed and uncontested. Further, in case parties request that these applications be hearing by the division bench then the same shall be placed before the Division Bench and any final adjudication of contested matters affecting substantive rights shall not be taken by a Single Judicial Member.
