Sundaresh Bhat is a Partner of the BDO Restructuring Advisory LLP, part of BDO in India since 2016. In his role, he leads the Business restructuring practice. A Chartered accountant by qualification from ICAI and a Registered Insolvency professional with IBBI, Sundaresh brings over 29 years of experience as CFO of large companies and as a Resolution professional having led large teams in corporate and Restructuring space and having extensive experience in Corporate governance, M&A and Post merger Integration , Global Financial controllership, Global IT / SAP implementations, insolvency & bankruptcy, Debt restructuring and General corporate advisory.
A pioneer team member of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) practice in India, Sundaresh has been instrumental in starting the Restructuring Practice at BDO & shaping and expanding its presence across India. He as Insolvency professional has handled marquee cases like ABG shipyard, Sterling Biotech , JBF Petro chemicals and others totalling to about USD 15 bn. He has been a key member in over 45 large Corporate Insolvency Resolution and liquidation processes, including several from the RBI’s Big 12 and Next 20 lists—some of India’s highest-value stressed accounts amounting to about USD 22 bn.
Various landmark jurisprudence have been formed in cases being handled by him under IBC at hon. supreme court level, which is cited at various forums and learning academies especially with reference to treatment of labour payments, treatment of stakeholders under 12A, treatment of PF and gratuity, custom duty obligations under cirp etc.
He works extensively with clients, lenders, and key stakeholders in the stressed assets ecosystem and is actively associated with INSOL India, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Insolvency Law Academy ( ILA) and other professional forums.
